Finding Strength Through God’s Word

Grief can leave us feeling lost, overwhelmed, and isolated. Whether it’s the loss of a loved one, the breakdown of a relationship, or another painful moment, finding comfort during these times can feel impossible. But the Bible—filled with God’s unchanging promises—offers profound hope and healing to all who are hurting.

In our newest GodPrints YouTube video, Hope and Healing in Scripture (watch it here), we explore life-giving verses that speak directly to the grieving heart. Let these passages remind you of God’s closeness, His promise of comfort, and the strength He provides to carry you through even the darkest valleys

Key Bible Verses for Hope and Healing

1. Psalms 34:18 – God is Near to the Brokenhearted

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

When grief weighs us down, God’s word assures us that He is close. He doesn’t watch from afar—He meets us in our sorrow. This verse is a reminder that you are not alone. God draws near, offering His presence as a sanctuary for your broken spirit.

2. Matthew 5:4 – The Promise of Comfort

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”

Jesus’ words invite us to embrace our grief rather than push it away. Mourning is sacred, and God promises divine comfort that reaches beyond human understanding. If you’re grieving today, trust that God’s love is surrounding you, ready to bring peace to your pain.

3. Isaiah 41:10 – Strength When You Feel Weak

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

In seasons of grief, weakness can feel overwhelming. This verse serves as a powerful reminder: God is your strength. He lifts you up when you feel like you can’t go on. Lean on Him, knowing that He will uphold you with His unfailing love.

4. Revelations 21:4 – A Future Free from Pain

“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

Grief is a part of this life, but it is not the end of the story. This verse paints a beautiful picture of eternal hope: a future where God Himself will wipe away every tear. Let this promise fill you with hope, knowing that one day sorrow will be replaced with joy.

5. Psalms 147:3 – God Heals Our Wounds

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.”

Healing is often a journey—one that God walks with us step by step. He sees your wounds, acknowledges your pain, and actively works to bring restoration. Trust in His gentle, loving care as He binds up your broken heart.

Finding Comfort in Scripture and Community

The Bible is a powerful tool for healing, offering timeless promises of God’s comfort, strength, and hope. When grief feels too heavy to bear, turn to these verses as a lifeline. Write them down, reflect on them, and allow God’s word to speak peace into your heart.

Grief is a complex and deeply personal experience that can have a profound impact on families. Each member of a family may navigate their grief in unique ways, influenced by various factors such as personality, coping mechanisms, and past traumas. Understanding how grief affects families, the importance of individual differences, and the significance of unity during the grieving process is crucial for fostering support and strengthening familial bonds.

Individual Perspectives on Grief in Families

Grief affects families in diverse ways, with each individual experiencing their own emotional journey. Men and women, as well as boys and girls, may process grief differently, leading to challenges in grieving as a family unit. Personalities, coping mechanisms, and emotional expressions play a significant role in shaping how each family member grieves. It is essential for families to acknowledge and respect these differences to provide the necessary support and understanding during the grieving process.

Factors Influencing Grieving Processes in Families

Various factors can influence how grief manifests within a family dynamic. Differences in relationships, such as those between parents and siblings, can impact how each member grieves. These differences can either strengthen familial bonds by fostering empathy and support or strain relationships if not addressed effectively. External factors like employment, finances, social support, and past traumas can also significantly influence how individuals experience and cope with grief. Being aware of these factors is essential for creating a compassionate and inclusive grieving environment within the family.

Fostering Unity and Support in Family Grief

One of the key aspects of navigating grief in families is fostering unity and support among its members. Being gracious and understanding towards each other’s unique grieving processes, preferences, and relationships with the deceased is crucial in maintaining a sense of togetherness during difficult times. Unity in grief can be achieved by encouraging open communication, sharing memories, and providing a safe space for all family members to express their emotions without judgment. By recognizing and embracing the diversity within the family, individuals can find strength and solace in facing grief together.

Understanding the complexities of grief within families, respecting individual differences, and prioritizing unity and support are essential components of navigating the grieving process. By acknowledging each family member’s unique journey and creating a supportive environment, families can come together to honor their loved ones and find healing in the midst of loss.

Life is unpredictable, and at some point, we all face challenges that can shake us to the core. Whether it’s the loss of a loved one, a traumatic experience, or just feeling stuck in a rut, these shattering moments can leave us feeling lost and overwhelmed. In times like these, seeking help is not a sign of weakness but an act of courage and self-care. This article will explore the importance of seeking counseling after shattering experiences, overcoming stigma, and utilizing faith for growth. It is based on a recent GodPrints YouTube Channel episode where I shared more in-depth on this topic. Join me on this journey as we discover the role of professionals, the differences between counseling and coaching, finding support, and embracing personal development.

Understanding the Importance of Seeking Counseling After Shattering Moments

Experiencing shattering moments can leave deep emotional scars that are not easy to heal on our own. Seeking counseling provides a safe and supportive space to process these experiences, express our feelings, and work through the pain. A qualified therapist can offer valuable insights, coping strategies, and tools to help navigate the healing process effectively.

Overcoming Stigma and Embracing Support from Christian Professionals

In Western society, seeking counseling has often been stigmatized, with some viewing it as a sign of weakness or mental instability. However, overcoming this stigma is vital for our well-being. Christian professionals, who integrate faith and spirituality into their practice, can provide a unique perspective and guidance that aligns with one’s beliefs and values, fostering a deeper sense of connection and healing.

Exploring Differentiation Between Counseling and Coaching, and Finding Guidance

While counseling and coaching share similarities, such as providing support and guidance, they differ in their approaches and focus. Counseling typically delves into past experiences and emotions to heal wounds, while coaching is more future-oriented, focusing on setting goals and achieving personal growth. Understanding these differences can help individuals choose the right path based on their needs and aspirations.

By becoming a Board Certified Master Mental Health Coach specializing in grief, loss, and trauma-informed care, I hope to offer specialized support to those navigating these specific challenges. Recommendations for finding a counselor or coach include seeking referrals from trusted sources, checking credentials and experience, and ensuring a good fit in terms of personality and approach.

Embracing post-traumatic growth and personal development is a transformative journey that can lead to resilience, inner strength, and a deeper understanding of oneself. Financial constraints should not be a barrier to seeking guidance, as there are alternative ways to access support, such as community resources, sliding scale fees, and online counseling options.

Lastly, utilizing faith and prayer as a source of counseling and hope can provide comfort, guidance, and a sense of purpose during difficult times.

Integrating these into our healing process can deepen our spiritual connection and foster a sense of peace and resilience. Embarking on the path of counseling and coaching is a courageous step towards healing and growth. By seeking the support of professionals, overcoming stigma, and embracing personal development,we can navigate through challenging moments with strength, resilience, and newfound hope.

Today, as I listened to Rend Collective’s “Counting Every Blessing”, I was reminded of just how blessed I am. Despite the ups and downs of life, I am filled with gratitude for the abundance of blessings that surround me.

I am thankful for 30 years with the love of my life, Myron, who has been my rock through every storm. The joy of being a mother to two incredible boys, Jacob and Caleb, fills my heart with gratitude. Although Jacob is now in heaven, I am immensely proud of the strength and faith that Caleb has shown in the face of adversity.

The tragic accident in 2015 changed our lives forever, but through it all, I have witnessed miraculous healing in Caleb, both physically and spiritually. Surviving stage four cancer was a battle that shaped me in ways I never imagined, and being here today to witness the blessings that followed fills me with awe.

I am grateful for the beautiful daughter, Crystal, who has joined our family, bringing joy and love into our lives. Over 25 years of being cancer-free is a testament to the power of faith and perseverance. The support of friends and family, as well as the unwavering love of God, have sustained me through every trial and triumph.

As I reflect on my journey, I am reminded of the grace and mercy that have guided me through each challenge. My heart overflows with gratitude for the savior who walks beside me, offering comfort and strength in times of need.

In the midst of life’s trials, there is always something to be thankful for. Let us embrace gratitude and find joy in the simple blessings that surround us each day.

Today, I encourage you to take a moment to count your blessings. What are you grateful for? Share in the comments below!

“Don’t ever let today’s disappointment cast a shadow on tomorrow’s dream.” – Unknown

A few years ago, while attending a local writer’s conference, I received news that every writer longs to hear only to have it fall flat two weeks later. My emotions twisted and turned tighter than a rollercoaster, so I prayerfully set aside time to grieve the loss of one dream and move forward toward another by creating three action steps. These steps helped me to lay aside disappointment and hit the re-set button.

It’s important to know how to handle disappointment because it’s a common emotion we experience in daily life. A dream job fizzles, friends let us down, or life simply takes unexpected detours. Let’s be honest, one doesn’t have to look far to find unmet expectations.

And yet, it’s what we choose to do with this disappointment that determines our next steps, and even our future.

From Genesis to Revelation, we read of the disappointed. There was Moses, David, Rachel, and Hannah. Elijah was so downhearted, he asked God to take his life. Disappointment can dim our perspective, resulting in long-term discouragement, the too-early release of a ministry, the loss of relationships, depression, etc.

Perhaps it’s my own struggle with depression that alerted me to its danger, inspiring me to remember the following truths. I hope in some small way, they will help you too.

Three Action Steps to Take When Disappointment Strikes

  1. Be kind to yourself.

Imagine telling a friend to “get over it” when their disappointment is so new it cries when spanked. So why would we treat ourselves any differently? I gave myself three days:

  • Day 1: Embrace the numbness. It tends to clip the heels of disappointment.
  • Day 2: Engage in prayer.
  • Day 3: Write down the next right thing to do and the specific steps required to move forward.

This structure proved helpful for my situation. Obviously, there are no time constraints for those who grieve or a 1-2-3 formula for deeper disappointments.

Maybe you’re wondering why prayer wasn’t listed on day one. I wanted to, but I was numb. Instead of beating myself up, as I’ve done in the past, I embraced it as tightly as I did my Heavenly Father’s love. God knows the time required for filtering our emotions down to the point of an offering.

  1. Pray in the right direction.

On the second day, and the following few, I noticed how my prayers were laser-focused on writing. Such as, what can I learn from these experiences? How should I proceed with the book? Should I proceed with the book?

There’s nothing wrong with these prayers. And yet, at that moment, I realized my focus was more on the writing and less on the Author. I paused, thanking God for reminding me that He’s not nearly as interested in my writing as He is with me, His daughter. It was my heart He desired above all, not my fingertips. And it’s your heart He desires above all else too.

  1. Remember, God wastes nothing.

Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” He works through all things for our good, even disappointment. In fact, God often uses it to spur us on to start new ministries, to serve others with more clarity, or step back and recharge.

If there was an opportunity to go back and erase the disappointment I felt after the conference, I wouldn’t take it. In fact, because of the steps taken after the disappointment, I recreated my book and as a result, landed my dream literary agent.

We never know how God will use disappointment for our good and for His glory, but we know He will, and this brings rest and refreshment for our souls.
