Grief is not just something we feel—it’s something we live through. And when you’ve lost your spouse, the world can feel both painfully quiet and overwhelmingly loud. In the midst of that emotional fog, it’s hard to know where to turn.

That’s why I’m honored to recommend a compassionate, biblically grounded resource for any widow walking this painful road:

W.I.N.G.S.: Hope for Widows in New Growth Seasons
by Virginia Grounds

Why W.I.N.G.S. is So Needed Right Now

Written with deep empathy and spiritual wisdom, W.I.N.G.S. offers both a soft place to land and a steady place to stand. It’s one of the most honest and hopeful books I’ve read for Christian widows. Here’s why it stands out:

💔 It Validates the Mental and Emotional Fog of Grief

  • The book addresses “Widow Brain”—a term many grieving women resonate with.

  • Virginia Grounds explains the cognitive and emotional disorientation that can follow the loss of a spouse.

  • This section alone offers immediate relief by assuring readers: You’re not crazy. You’re grieving.

🕊 It Offers a Safe, Shared Space with Other Widows

  • Throughout the book, Virginia includes testimonies from widows at various stages of grief.

  • These voices make readers feel seen and less alone.

  • Their stories create a sacred sense of community on the page.

✍️ It Provides Practical, Daily Guidance

Each chapter ends with Practical Tips—and I had the privilege of writing them.

These action steps are:

  • Simple but meaningful

  • Designed for overwhelmed hearts

  • Grounded in Scripture and gentle encouragement

Whether it’s how to handle quiet mornings or how to navigate family gatherings, these tips offer hope through tangible next steps.

🌿 It Shifts the Focus from Grief to Growth

  • The book doesn’t gloss over pain—but it gently redirects it toward purpose.

  • With biblical insight, Virginia invites readers to discover God’s faithfulness in their new season.

  • It becomes less about “getting over” the loss and more about growing through it.

Who This Book is For

  • New widows feeling disoriented and alone

  • Women further along in their grief journey, needing spiritual refreshment

  • Pastors, counselors, and lay leaders looking to support grieving women in their churches

  • Family members who want to understand and care for a grieving widow

Why I Personally Recommend It

I’ve spent years walking with grieving women—and I’ve lived through the valley of grief myself.

This book doesn’t offer quick fixes. It offers faithful presence. It’s a kind companion in the dark, gently pointing you back to the One who walks with us even there.

Whether you’re just starting your healing or have been walking it for a while, W.I.N.G.S. offers spiritual nourishment, practical hope, and a renewed sense of identity.

There’s something truly magical about a great book. With each page turned, we step into new worlds, meet unforgettable characters, and gain fresh insights that can shape the way we see life. Some stories entertain us, others challenge us, and a few leave an imprint so deep that we carry them with us forever.

Among the many authors whose works have had this kind of impact, C.S. Lewis stands out. His ability to weave profound themes into captivating narratives has cemented his place in literary history. Whether through the allegorical fantasy of The Chronicles of Narnia or the witty, thought-provoking lessons of The Screwtape Letters, his works continue to resonate with readers of all ages.

Let’s explore the transformative power of reading through the lens of Lewis’s timeless books.

The Magic of Reading: More Than an Escape

Reading is more than just a hobby—it’s an experience that can change the way we think, feel, and engage with the world. Literature:

Expands our imagination – It takes us beyond our everyday reality.
Encourages self-reflection – Great stories often mirror our struggles and triumphs.
Offers wisdom – Timeless books teach us about faith, redemption, and resilience.

C.S. Lewis masterfully blends these elements, crafting stories that entertain while also sparking deeper contemplation about life, faith, and morality.

Rediscovering The Chronicles of Narnia

Many first encounter The Chronicles of Narnia through its most famous books, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Prince Caspian. However, the entire series is a masterpiece—each book offering its own profound themes and spiritual insights.

📖 The Horse and His Boy – Explores identity and destiny.
📖 The Silver Chair – Highlights perseverance and truth-seeking.
📖 The Last Battle – A breathtaking reflection on faith, eternity, and new beginnings.

Lewis’s storytelling is not just about adventure—it’s about bravery, sacrifice, redemption, and friendship. The Christian allegory woven into the series adds depth, making each book both a compelling read and a source of spiritual reflection.

Faith and Redemption in The Last Battle

The final book in The Chronicles of Narnia, The Last Battle, is one of Lewis’s most profound works. Themes of faith, redemption, and eternity unfold in a way that moves many readers deeply.

📌 Why It’s Worth Reading:

  • It offers a powerful depiction of heaven, sparking reflection on what lies beyond this life.
  • It explores the courage required to face the unknown.
  • It reminds us that endings are not truly the end—but the beginning of something greater.

If you haven’t yet read The Last Battle, or if it’s been years since you last turned its pages, now might be the perfect time to revisit its powerful message.

The Unique Insights of The Screwtape Letters

Another of Lewis’s most compelling works is The Screwtape Letters, a series of fictional letters from a senior demon (Screwtape) mentoring his nephew (Wormwood) on how to lead a human astray.

Why This Book is Still Relevant Today:
It offers deep insight into human nature – The way we rationalize our struggles and temptations.
It challenges us to examine our own actions and choices.
Lewis’s wit and wisdom make it a thought-provoking yet accessible read.

While the older language can be a challenge, the timeless lessons make the effort worthwhile. If you’ve never read The Screwtape Letters, consider adding it to your reading list—you may find yourself seeing faith and human nature in a whole new way.

Life is full of unexpected twists and turns, and sometimes those twists leave us feeling broken and lost. How do we hold onto our faith when everything around us feels like it’s falling apart? That’s the heart of Divine Disruption: Holding On to Faith When Life Breaks Your Heart by Dr. Tony Evans and his four children. This powerful book offers hope, strength, and practical insights for navigating life’s most difficult moments.

In my latest YouTube video, I dive into the key lessons from this inspiring book. You can watch it here: https://youtu.be/jCxwE2m6THI.

What Is ‘Divine Disruption’ All About?

The Evans family wrote this book after experiencing the heartbreaking loss of Lois Evans, Dr. Tony Evans’s beloved wife and their mother. Together, they share deeply personal stories about grief, loss, and the strength they’ve found in trusting God’s plan through it all. Each family member brings their unique perspective, creating a tapestry of encouragement for anyone who’s ever faced life’s unexpected storms.

What Does It Mean to Embrace a ‘Divine Disruption’?

Life’s disruptions—the ones that knock us off our feet—are often where God meets us most profoundly. The Evans family describes these moments not as detours but as opportunities to grow spiritually and lean into God. They remind us that even in our pain, there’s purpose. While disruptions shake us, they also invite us to build an unshakable faith.

Why You Should Read This Book

This isn’t just another book about grief. Divine Disruption is filled with practical takeaways for living out your faith when life feels hardest. The Evans family reminds us to practice gratitude, even in the darkest moments, to lean on others for support, and to stay grounded through prayer and scripture. One of my favorite quotes from the book is, “If God showed us the whole journey, we’d never take the first step.” What a beautiful reminder to trust God, even when the way forward feels unclear.

If you’re walking through a tough season—or if you simply want to be encouraged in your faith—this book is for you. And if you’d like to hear more about the Evans family’s insights and how they’ve impacted my own perspective, check out my video: https://youtu.be/jCxwE2m6THI.

Let’s talk about it in the comments! What’s been your greatest lesson about faith during life’s hardest moments? I’d love to hear your thoughts. 💛

Have you ever felt like your pain was consuming you, leaving you lost and without purpose? In times of deep loss and suffering, it can be challenging to see a way forward. However, there is an organization that believes that nothing in life is wasted, even our most painful experiences. Welcome to Nothing is Wasted Ministries, a beacon of hope and transformation for those navigating the complexities of grief, trauma, and loss.

Introduction to Nothing is Wasted Ministries

Nothing is Wasted Ministries is not just another support program; it’s a community built on the foundation of resilience and faith. Founded by a pastor who tragically lost his pregnant wife to murder, this organization draws strength from Romans chapter 8 to offer a unique perspective on pain and purpose. Through a range of resources such as podcasts, books, and specialized curriculums, Nothing is Wasted Ministries addresses a wide spectrum of losses beyond traditional grief, providing a safe space for individuals to explore their innermost struggles.

Differences and Unique Approach of Nothing is Wasted Ministries

What sets Nothing is Wasted Ministries apart from conventional grief support programs is its inclusive approach to loss. While programs like Grief Share focus primarily on bereavement, Nothing is Wasted Ministries extends its support to individuals dealing with chronic illness, trauma recovery, and various other forms of loss. Through their thought-provoking podcast episodes that touch on themes of strength and tenderness in the aftermath of trauma, this organization resonates with a diverse audience, emphasizing that suffering can be a catalyst for growth and transformation.

Exploring the Resources of Nothing is Wasted Ministries

One of the standout resources offered by Nothing is Wasted Ministries is the Pain to Purpose Devotional, a 42-day journey towards finding meaning in life’s adversities. This structured program guides participants through reflections and exercises designed to help them uncover their purpose amidst pain. In addition to this devotional, the organization provides a blend of free resources such as community forums and blogs, along with paid offerings like the Pain to Purpose curriculum for group learning.

Through these resources and their unwavering message of hope, Nothing is Wasted Ministries stands as a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. By empowering individuals to find purpose in their pain and encouraging growth through suffering, this organization embodies the belief that every experience, no matter how challenging, holds the potential for transformation.

Join us on a journey of healing and discovery with Nothing is Wasted Ministries, where pain is not the end of the story but the beginning of a new chapter filled with purpose and meaning.

I love to read, so it’s probably no surprise that books, magazines, and articles are one tool that God has used to bring deep healing to my life. In today’s modern age of libraries and online reading, this truly could be absolutely free for you. Yet, even if you choose to purchase a book, the cost is most likely less than what you spend on coffee each month 😊

It should seem obvious, but unfortunately, it’s not for many folks: my #1 book recommendation is the Bible. Packed full of real-life answers for real-life problems, its wisdom will never be surpassed. Beyond that, there are so many talented Christian authors and powerful written works out there. How do you even know where to start? I have some ideas for you!

But first, a shameless plug here: I believe that anyone questioning God’s goodness in the face of tragedy or wondering how on earth to process life in a way that leaves you a better person afterward should read my book, GodPrints. I wrote it for those reasons and believe it will help. If finances are tight and you can’t afford it, please reach out to me and I will make sure you can read it.

Please keep in mind that you can always use your internet search engine (Google, etc..) to find more. I just caution you that if you’re looking for scripturally based resources, you need to enter that in your search request too. If you’re looking for a specific topic and struggling to find materials, ask a librarian, counselor, friend, or me. I’m happy to help.

Check out my resource page, which has links to some book reviews: Resources

Plus, I mention the impact this book had on me in my book, GodPrints. I even share a link in our family’s photo gallery GodPrints Photo Gallery (Scroll all the way to the bottom and look for Suffer Strong)
